INSPIRATION AND COMMUNITY

Additional Information

Here at Helping Heart Heroes (HHH) we aim to connect heart families in need with the right programs and information to help them through their CHD journey.  Whether it be financial problems or wanting to connect with other CHD families, preparing for surgeries or coping from the loss of a heart warrior.  Maybe you just want a better understanding of a particular heart defect; Helping Heart Heroes strives to connect patients and their families with organizations that will suit a particular need.

Helping Heart Heroes is a Mid-West based organization. Our main goal is to spread awareness in our community and surrounding areas.  We feel it's important to promote and shed light on some very amazing non-profit CHD related organizations.  These organizations include:

The Pediatric Congenital Heart Association’s mission is to “Conquer Congenital Heart Disease.”  They are accomplishing this through collaboration with patients, parents, providers, and partner organizations in order to effectively advocate for improved quality and outcomes through CHD education, research and awareness.  Based out of Milwaukee WI. PCHA strives to help patients and their families through hospital transparency, research and fighting to pass legislative laws regarding CHD.  Check out the amazing group of doctors and dedicated professionals at conqueringchd.org.  We have had the privilege to raise and donate almost $5,000 to this  amazing group!

Camp Odayin is an amazing non profit organization based out of Minnesota that allows kids with CHD to attend camp for only $25! They provide a safe camping experience for heart warriors that may have never been able to experience due to their complex medical conditions.  Camp Odayin provides fun, safe and supportive camp experiences and community building opportunities for young people with heart disease and their families.  Their mission is based on a holistic approach to healing hearts, a desire to nurture and develop independence, confidence, and acceptance throughout their camper’s lives, the importance of a sense of community among our heart family, and an emphasis on having fun and celebrating life!   We are also happy to say we have been able to support them by raising and donating $1,413. We hope to donate to Camp Odayin again in the near future.   Check them out at CampOdayin.org

Mended Little Hearts is a national and community-based non-profit organization that has been offering the gift of hope to heart disease patients, their families and caregivers. To offer this hope Mended Hearts provides a variety of programs.   This non profit organization also raises money for research, families, and legislative procedures.  MLH has chapters spread across the country; the mid west has a chapter right out of Sioux Falls SD.  This amazing group connects CHD kids through day trips and activities.  They also connect parents and families and raise funds for CHD research. Children's Heart Foundation  (CHF) was founded in 1996 and is the country's leading organization solely dedicated to funding Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) research. The mission of CHF is to fund the most promising research to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of CHDs. To date, The Children's Heart Foundation has funded 99 research projects with more than $10.6 million. As the country's leading organization solely committed to CHD research funding, CHF dedicates itself to advancing the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of congenital heart defects.  Please check them out at mendedhearts.org

Hayden's Heart is a non-profit  that has been created to honor Hayden Jeter Dorsett. Their mission with his foundation is to raise CHD awareness and to keep Hayden's Memory alive by helping families affected by CHD. Hayden's Heart achieves this goal by hosting numerous fundraisers each year in memory of Hayden. While planning each event, they choose a fellow heart family whose child is beating the odds against CHD but whose family could also benefit from financial help towards outstanding medical bills, travel expenses and just every day living. Unfortunately health insurance companies do not always cover all medical procedures, hospital stays, or medicines and equipment that need to be available for home care. In addition to those expenses, several families must travel far distances to ensure their child is receiving care from the absolute best hospitals, giving their warrior the best fighting chance. Because of this, Hayden's Heart has decided to make it their mission to support these families both financially and emotionally.

In addition to financially supporting these families, they also distribute care packages three times a year to five pediatric cardiac units on the East Coast.  In addition to care packages Hayden's heart also supports grieving families by sending out bereavement care packages and hosting Hayden's House of Healing retreats.  Please check them out if you or someone you know is suffering from the loss of a child.  Look them up at haydenshouse.com

Spare Key is a non profit based out of St. Paul MN. their mission is to provide assistance to families in crisis with critically ill or seriously injured family members through housing grant payment assistance, engaged resource referral and advocacy.  Families with critically ill relatives face an enormous dilemma: Stay with and support their hospitalized family member or go to work and earn income required to pay the bills. Most working family members have two weeks of vacation leave and one week of sick leave available to them. When paid time off is used up, they must take unpaid leave to remain with their family member in the hospital; an option not financially viable to many working families.   Spare Key provides mortgage assistance to families in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and South Dakota who have a family member with a serious illness or critical injury requiring hospitalization.  Contact Spare Key at sparekey.org
